Questions and Answers

PART 1: Languages

  1. How many languages can you speak? Why/Why not?

I can speak two languages fluently: my native language and English. I find it important to be bilingual because it helps me communicate with more people and access a wider range of information.

  2. How useful will English be to you in your future? Why/Why not?

English will be very useful in my future, especially since it's widely used in business and technology. It will allow me to connect with people from different countries and access educational resources and opportunities.

  3. What do you remember about learning languages at school? Why/Why not?

I remember that learning languages at school was challenging yet enjoyable. The interactive activities and conversations with classmates made it engaging, but I sometimes struggled with grammar and vocabulary.

  4. What do you think would be the hardest language for you to learn? Why?

I think Mandarin Chinese would be the hardest language for me to learn because of its tonal nature and complex writing system. The pronunciation and characters seem quite difficult compared to languages that use the Latin alphabet.

PART II: Describe a Website That You Bought Something From

I frequently use Amazon, an online shopping website.

I bought a new laptop from Amazon a few months ago. The process was straightforward, and I found a great deal.

I was very satisfied with my purchase. The laptop arrived on time, and it worked perfectly. I loved the detailed product descriptions and customer reviews that helped me make my decision.

One thing I liked about using Amazon was the convenience of shopping from home and the wide selection of products. However, I disliked that sometimes the product images can be misleading, so I always make sure to read reviews carefully.

PART III: Discussion Topics

Shopping Online

  1. What kinds of things do people in your country often buy from online shops?

People in my country often buy electronics, clothing, and household items from online shops. The convenience of having products delivered to their door is a major draw.

  2. Why do you think online shopping has become so popular nowadays?

Online shopping has become popular because it's convenient and saves time. People can browse products anytime and anywhere, and compare prices easily, which encourages more purchases.

  3. What are some possible disadvantages of buying things from online shops?

Some disadvantages include the inability to see or touch products before purchasing, potential shipping delays, and the risk of receiving items that don't match their descriptions. Additionally, return processes can sometimes be complicated.

The Culture of Consumerism

  1. Why do many people today keep buying things which they do not need?

Many people buy unnecessary items due to advertising and social pressure. The desire to keep up with trends and the fear of missing out can drive impulsive purchases.

  2. Do you believe the benefits of a consumer society outweigh the disadvantages?

It’s a complex issue. While a consumer society drives economic growth and innovation, it can also lead to waste and overconsumption. I believe the key is finding a balance and being mindful of our purchases.

  3. How possible is it to avoid the culture of consumerism?

It can be challenging to avoid consumerism completely, especially in a society that encourages constant buying. However, being aware of our consumption habits, focusing on needs rather than wants, and practicing minimalism can help reduce its influence.
