Questions and Answers

PART 1 – Band 9 Answers

1. Have you travelled a lot by plane?

Absolutely! I’ve taken quite a few flights over the years, hopping across countries like Japan, Australia, and France. Each journey has its own charm, whether I’m off for a vacation or heading to visit family and friends.

2. Why do you think some people enjoy travelling by plane?

Many people find flying enjoyable because it’s incredibly efficient. It’s all about the thrill of reaching distant places in just a few hours. Plus, there’s something magical about soaring above the clouds and soaking in those stunning aerial views. For some, the experience itself is a big part of the adventure.

3. Would you like to live near an airport?

Not really! Living close to an airport wouldn’t be ideal for me. The constant noise from takeoffs and landings could get really annoying, and I prefer a quieter environment. Also, areas around airports can be quite hectic, and I love my peace and quiet at home.

4. In the future, do you think that you will travel by plane more often?

Definitely! I see myself flying more often down the line. I absolutely love exploring new destinations, and flying is the easiest way to get to many of them. Plus, considering my job might require some travel, I can only imagine I’ll be clocking in more flight hours.

PART 2 – Band 9 Answer

One person from my country who truly stands out is Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006, and his groundbreaking work in microfinance is what earned him this prestigious accolade. Dr. Yunus founded the Grameen Bank, aiming to provide small loans to those in need, particularly women in Bangladesh who lacked access to traditional banking services. This initiative empowered countless individuals to start their own businesses and improve their living conditions.

I firmly believe it was absolutely right for him to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. His innovative approach has transformed lives, reducing poverty and fostering entrepreneurship in communities that often get overlooked. Dr. Yunus didn’t just create a bank; he sparked a movement that has inspired many others around the world to take similar steps toward social and economic development.

PART 3 – Band 9 Answers

1. What types of school prizes do children in your country receive?

In my country, children often receive various awards at school, including certificates for academic achievements, medals for sporting excellence, and sometimes even scholarships for higher education. These prizes recognize hard work and encourage students to strive for success.

2. What do you think are the advantages of rewarding schoolchildren for good work?

Rewarding students has several perks. For starters, it motivates them to put in their best effort and aim for excellence. Recognizing their achievements also boosts their confidence, showing them that their hard work is valued. Plus, it cultivates a healthy competitive spirit, creating an overall positive learning environment.

3. Do you agree that it’s more important for children to receive rewards from their parents than from teachers?

I believe both parental and teacher recognition are crucial. Parents provide emotional support and encouragement at home, which can be incredibly motivating. Meanwhile, teachers acknowledge academic and behavioral achievements at school, reinforcing positive behaviors. Both types of recognition play an essential role in a child’s growth and motivation.

4. Do you think that some sportspeople (e.g., top footballers) are paid too much money?

Yes, I do think some top sports figures, especially in football, earn exorbitant amounts. They rake in massive salaries due to their fame and the revenue they generate for their teams and sponsors. While I understand the market dictates their pay, it can seem disproportionate compared to other essential professions.

5. Should everyone on a team get the same prize money when they win?

That’s a tricky one! In team sports, many feel everyone should share equally in the prize money since it’s a collective effort. On the flip side, some argue that the star players, who play pivotal roles in securing victories, should receive a larger share. It really depends on how the team dynamics are structured.

6. Do you agree with the view that, in sport, taking part is more important than winning?

Absolutely! Participating in sports teaches valuable life skills like teamwork and perseverance. While winning is thrilling, the experiences and lessons learned from playing are what truly matter. It’s all about enjoying the journey and growing as an individual, which is what makes sports worthwhile in the long run.
