Questions and Answers
PART I: Entertainment
Do you prefer relaxing at home or going out in the evening? Why?
I usually prefer relaxing at home in the evening because it helps me unwind after a busy day. Home feels comfortable, and I can enjoy a good book or a movie without the noise of a crowded place. Plus, I love cooking, so staying in often means I get to experiment with new recipes.
When you go out for an evening, what do you like to do?
When I do go out, I like catching up with friends over dinner or coffee. I also enjoy live music, so I’ll sometimes head to a nearby café or pub that has live performances. It’s a nice way to get out and enjoy the atmosphere without too much fuss.
How popular is this with other people in your country?
Going out for casual dinners or enjoying live music is actually quite popular here. People love socializing, and cafes or pubs with live music are usually packed on weekends. It’s something a lot of people, especially younger ones, enjoy.
Is there any kind of entertainment you do not like? Why/Why not?
I’m not a huge fan of nightclubs. The loud music and the crowded dance floors just aren’t my thing. I find it a bit overwhelming and prefer places where I can chat with friends and actually hear them.
PART II: Describe One of Your Friends
One of my closest friends is Alex, whom I met during my first year at university. We happened to be in the same study group for a project, and we clicked instantly. That was around six years ago, so we’ve known each other for quite a while now.
Alex and I have a lot in common, so we usually spend our time together doing things we both enjoy. We love exploring new restaurants and trying different cuisines – food adventures are kind of our thing. We also enjoy hiking, so we’ll often take weekend trips to nearby trails when we both have some time off.
The reason I really like Alex is his sense of humor. He has this way of making any situation feel lighter, and he’s always been incredibly supportive. Whether I’m stressed about work or dealing with something personal, he’s always there to offer advice or just listen. I feel very lucky to have him in my life.
PART III: Discussion Topics
Qualities of Friends
What do you think are the most important qualities for friends to have?
I think honesty and loyalty are key qualities in a friendship. Honesty keeps the relationship genuine, as friends can trust each other to be open. Loyalty is equally important because a true friend stands by you, especially in difficult times. I’d also say a good sense of humor doesn’t hurt, as it makes life more enjoyable.
Which are more important to people, their family or their friends? Why?
It depends on the person, but family often holds a stronger place due to the lifelong connection and support. However, friends can sometimes feel like family and become just as essential. People often rely on family for stability, while friends provide companionship and emotional support.
What do you think causes friendships to break up?
Friendships can break up due to misunderstandings, lack of communication, or simply drifting apart over time. Sometimes people’s lives take different paths, and they don’t have the same connection anymore. Trust issues can also play a big part; once trust is broken, it’s hard to maintain a close friendship.
Other Relationships
What other types of relationships, apart from friends or family, are important in people's lives today?
Professional relationships have become increasingly important, as they can impact career growth and provide valuable mentorship. Romantic relationships are also central for many, as they offer companionship and emotional support. Relationships with teachers, mentors, or even online communities are also quite meaningful to people today.
Have relationships with neighbours where you live changed in recent years? How?
Yes, relationships with neighbours have changed quite a bit. Nowadays, people tend to keep more to themselves, especially in big cities. In the past, neighbours would often socialize or lend each other a helping hand, but now people seem more focused on their own lives, and there’s less interaction.
How important do you think it is for a person to spend some time alone? Why/Why not?
I think it’s very important to spend some time alone. It gives people a chance to reflect, recharge, and understand themselves better. Alone time can help with personal growth, as it encourages self-awareness. It’s a healthy way to balance social interactions and one’s own well-being.
