Your Daily Life Daily life means how we spend our life everyday. Our life is very transitory. If a man follows a routine in his everyday life and makes the best use of time, he is sure to prosper in life. Now I am a student of class X. So, I follow a routine to perform my daily duties regularly. I get up from bed early in the morning. For there is a wise saying "Early to bed and early to rise, Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. At first I perform my morning duties. I wash my hands, face and brush my teeth well. Then I go out for a walk in the open air. My mind and body are both refreshed. Returning home, I offer my morning prayer. Then I take my breakfast. After my breakfast, I sit down to prepare my school tasks. I finish my studies at about 9 a.m. I take my bath at 9.30 a.m. Finishing my bath, I dress myself and sit down to my meal. After taking meal, I take a little rest. I start for school with my books at 10.00 a.m. Our school begins at 10.30 a.m. I sit in the first bench and listen to what my teachers say. After the fourth period we get half an hour for recreation and tiffin. Our school breaks-up at 4.30 p.m. I come back home quickly. Returning home, I put my books on the table. Then I take off my school dress. After washing my hands and feet, I refresh myself. Then I go out to the field to play. I play football with my friends. Before sunset, I return home. On returning home, I wash my hands and feet. Then I sit down to prepare my lessons for the next day. Then I take my supper at about 10.30 p.m. After supper, I turn over the pages

of magazines and newspapers. Then I go to bed at 11. 00 P.M. There is a slight departure from this routine on Fridays and other holidays. As Friday is our weekly holiday, I enjoy this day meaningfully. Every Friday I wash my clothes and clean my shoes and other essential things in the morning. Sometimes, I visit my friends and relatives. Every minute of my life is enjoyable to me and I am proud of it.

Your Favourite Game I am a great lover of games and sports. In fact, a game is a part and parcel of human life. Though football is a foreign game, it has become one of our national games. Nowadays football is played in every nook and corner of the world. There are various types of games of outdoor and indoor. Of all the outdoor games, I like football very much. I have taken part in many indoor and outdoor games such as – Hockey, Badminton, Cricket and Lawn Tennies. But no ether game appears to me so interesting and thrilling as football. Football is played in a large play ground. It is 110 to 120 yards long, and 70 to 80 yards broad. There are two goal posts at each of the two opposite ends of the field. Each post has a bar on them 8 feet above the ground and a net is filled with the bar. Football is played between two teams. Each team contains eleven players. The game is conducted by a referee with the help of two lines men. A ball is placed at the centre of the field. The players of each side take positions on either side. As soon as the referee blows the whistle, the ball is kicked off and the play starts. Each team tries to score a goal against the other. The game usually lasts for ninety minutes with an interval of 10 minutes. Football is a very favourite and enjoyable game almost in every country of the world. It teaches us discipline and co-operation. It makes us smart and prompt. It is also a kind of physical exercise. Football is undoubtedly a popular game. All classes of the people-old and young love this game very much. It is full of thrill for both the players and the spectators. Sometimes the players enjoy the game

more than the spectators. In a word, we can say that it gives us immense joy and pleasure.

Your Favourite Hobby A hobby is a man's favourite occupation other than his ma business. A man may find time after his usual daily work. He ma spend that time in doing something which gives him special pleasure and adds to his knowledge. It is called his hobby. Man great men of the world took to hobbies to relieve their mind from the monotony of their main business. Alexander, Washington Napoleon, Tolstoy, Rabindranath, Nazrul- all had their hobbies. Life becomes dull if there is no recreation. "What is this life full of care If you have no time to stand and stare?" There are various types of hobbies. Some people may like to spend. this time in gardening, collecting stamps, drawing pictures, playing, some games, catching fish, hunting birds or taking photographs et. I have a hobby which is befitting -for me. My hobby is photography. Indeed photography is a thrilling hobby. I have a small Yashic. camera. It is absolutely automatic. I like to take snaps of the: members of my family, relatives and friends now and then. I am A lover of nature. So, I am especially interested in taking pictures o various flowers and sublime natural scenery like the scenery o Sundarban which is very charming. I can not acquire immense pleasure from any other hobby than photography. Photograph influences my mind profoundly. This hobby occupies my mind so much that no evil thoughts can disturb me. Photography is a valuable hobby. If I wish, I can make it a profession in the near future. Moreover, I can preserve the present

situation for the bright future by photography. Even important occasions like marriages, birthdays, receptions and farewells can be preserved through photography. Photography will remain as my constant companion. Photography is a great source of pleasure to me. It removes the troubles, worries, and monotony of life. It teaches me purity of thoughts and actions. Life becomes dull and meaningless without a hobby. One gets much pleasure from having a hobby. So, every man should have a hobby of his own. YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE If I am asked to name my favourite movie, without hesitation, I shall vote for ‘Pather Panchali’. This movie was produced by Government of West Bengal in 1956. From the very first show it created a stir among the movie lovers. It ushered in a new trend in the movie making based on neo-realism. This movie is based on a novel of Bibhuti Bhusan Bandopadhya, the literary genius and it was directed by the late Satyajit Roy. Only after seeing the movie I could understand why it is acclaimed universally as one of the greatest masterpieces in the movie history. ‘Pather Panchali’ means something like ‘Saga of life’. It is not a novel in the conventional sense. It is a narration of the day-to-day life of a poor family living in a small village in Bengal. The story evolves round a poor Brahmin family headed by Harihar, his octogenarian sister Indira Thakrun, wife Sarvajaya and their children Durga and Apu. While the poor brahmin fights hard for survival, the two children Apu and Durga, full of life, live in their own world of sublime innocence and roam about merging completely with Nature. The story is simple and from this simple story Satyajit Roy created a superb movie. One of the greatest qualities of the director is that he presented the movie in such a way that one never feels that one was seeing a movie and witnessing a world of make----belief. Everything looked so natural. He did not neglect any detail. And the minutest details like rain drops falling on a bald head, the butterflies swinging about, Apu and Durga looking in a amazement at the train for the first time in their life made this movie a wonderful one. As for acting----it did never appear to me that they were acting in a movie; they looked natural----they just fitted in their respective roles. The scenario, photographs, location shooting----everything looked classic and flawless. I can never forget the scenes which ultimately signalled the deaths of Durga and Indira Thakrun. I think they are the best shots ever taken on celluloid. Last but not the least, the music composed by Ravi Shankar was superb. The background music of the vendor hawking by the side of a pond closely followed by a stray dog and the children was simply charming. The music gave a strange poignancy to the movie. The movie reflects the life of the millions of rural population of Bengal. It has a universal appeal and that is why the movie has won the hearts of its viewers and critics in different international movie festivals. Even in the U.S.A. some critics expressed that it was an experience of a lifetime to see such a movie. No wonder, it has won laurels all over the word. To me it is not a movie, it is a classic poem on celluloid. Your Favourite Poet / Author Of all the greatmen who were born in the 19th and 20th centuries, Rabindranath Tagore is the most famous them. He was born at Jorasanko in Kolkata on the 7th May, 1861 in the famous Tagore family. He is not only eminent in the Indo Pak sub-continent but also in the whole world. I am really proud of him. To speak the truth, his writings have enriched the field of Bengali literature in a variety of ways. Many of his writings have been translated into different languages. Consequently, the civilized world came in touch with Bengali literature and culture. He was honoured with 'knighthood' in 1914 by the then British Government. But as a patriot, he disowned the same in protest of the atrocious massacre of Jalianwala Bagh at Punjab. His early life was an interesting one. He had no regular school education. But his education was not neglected. From his very boyhood, he began to write poems of great merit and charm. Under the personal care of his father Debendranath Tagore, he gained a deep knowledge of Bengali, Sanskrit and English by the different private tutors. A few years later, he was sent to England. He spent a few months with Prof. Henry Morley at the University of London studying English literature. In a short time, he returned home. From the very early stage of his life, he began to compose poems. When he was a boy of fifteen, he wrote the first novel named Banaphool. Indeed, he was a man of uncommon literary achievement and versatile genius. That is, he was a poet, a dramatist, a story-writer, a novelist, a critic and an essayist. Some of his best poems are found in the 'Gitanjali', 'Sonar Tari', 'Kheya', 'Kalpana', 'Balaka' etc. For this 'Gitanjali' he got the 'Nobel Prize,' in literature in 1913. His novels and plays are of high quality. His songs are now very popular in our country. He was a great educationist. He established a school at Shantiniketan and afterwards founded the University of Viswa Bharati. I admire him because he was a great poet as well as a great thinker of international repute. He will be remembered from generation to generation for his Bengali literary activities. He died on the 7th of August in 1941 and his death anniversary was full of glory and honour. YOUR FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL It is very sweet to call up childhood days. All my days were not equally happy now and I often met with unhappy days. So when I feel blank and dejected, I look back on my boyhood days and try to remember the happy events of those days. My first day at school is one of the memorable days of my life. When I was a child my elder brother was a student. He was senior to me by three years. He went to school everyday. I pressed him to take me with him. Mother prevented him from doing it. When I attained the age of five, father proposed that I should by admitted in a school. I heard of it and was very glad. It was a Monday. Mother washed me well, combed my hair and dressed me in new, costly clothes. Father also dressed himself in fine clothes and became ready. Then he went to the village primary school. I accompanied him there. My father went to the Headmaster and requested him to admit me in class one. I felt shy and stood with my eyes fixed upon the ground. But his loving and affectionate words rid me of the shyness. I looked at him and he, with a smile, asked me what my name was. I told him my name. He was glad and admitted me in class one. There were twenty-five boys of my age in the class. I felt a kind of shyness when I was led there. My class teacher spoke to me tenderly. My classmates welcomed me with smiling faces. My class teacher also asked me what my name was. I answered him promptly but politely. He was glad at this. I was then given the first lesson in Bengali. I read it with my class -mates for one hour. Then my class was dismissed and I went home. My first day at school was very pleasant. I shall never forget that happy day.
