IELTS Speaking Part-1 Borrowing & Lending

Writer: Fakhruddin BabarFakhruddin Babar

Have you ever borrowed books from others?

Yes, I have. I have a circle of friends who are avid readers, so I often borrow comic books from them. It's a great way to pass the time during my days off or to catch up on the latest Manga. They always have interesting recommendations, which helps me stay updated with the latest trends in the comic world.

Have you ever borrowed money from others?

Yes, I have. When I was in high school, I frequently found myself short of cash and would often ask my friends for small amounts of money. However, now that I have a steady job and earn a decent income, I rarely need to borrow money. I’m in a much better financial position now.

Do you like to lend things to others?

Honestly, I think it's best to be cautious when lending things to others. While it’s nice to help out, sometimes people become too reliant on borrowed items and may ask for more in the future. I’m more inclined to lend things only when someone is genuinely in need or in difficult situations. Otherwise, it's better if they handle their issues on their own.

How do you feel when people don’t return things they borrowed from you?

It’s quite disappointing when friends don’t return items they’ve borrowed. I feel let down, especially if they promised to return them. Although I don’t like to remind them repeatedly or create any awkwardness, I expect them to be mindful of their responsibility to return borrowed items.

Do people feel embarrassed when they request things back from friends?

Yes, I often feel a bit embarrassed when asking friends to return borrowed items. I don’t want to damage our relationship or hurt their pride. It’s natural to feel uneasy because requesting things back can sometimes make the other person feel uncomfortable or undermine their self-respect.
