Describe a person you would like to meet

You should say:

·        Why you want to meet him/her

This is a tricky question for me to answer because there are literally hundreds of people that I’d love to meet, but if I had to choose just one, then it would be Kim Namjoon. He is relatively unknown in my country; however, he is an internationally known singer-songwriter and music producer who comes from Korea. BTS, the group that he is in, was named in the 20 most influential people to watch in 2019 alongside Michelle Obama, Bill Gates and Elon Musk among others so he is a person of note.

Many people might mock me and say ‘oh he’s only a pop star’, but he is more than just a pop star. Last year, BTS were invited to speak at the United Nations and Namjoon gave a seven minute speech on the importance of ‘loving yourself’. Mental health problems are at a record high in my country so for an idol to speak about self-love this will hopefully lead to young people taking more care of their mental health. At the moment, there are very few intelligent and worthy celebrities to admire, as many of them are youtubers or reality stars such as Kim Kardashian so it is refreshing to find a superstar who is not shallow like these others.

How would I feel if I met him? Well, I can say for sure that I would be overwhelmed. I once met a D-list celebrity when I was visiting London and I cried when he stopped to let me take his photo so you can imagine that if I met Kim Namjoon, someone who I respect, admire and hero worship, I would probably be in floods of tears.

I hope though, that I would be able to have a conversation with him. Despite being Korean, he is fluent in English and I would love to have a chat with him about all kinds of things. Unlike many famous people, who seem self-obsessed and narcissistic, I imagine that Kim Namjoon would not be like this, as he doesn’t come across like this in interviews. He seems very humble and down-to-earth. Sadly, I cannot imagine ever getting to meet him, not in a million years, but here’s hoping.

If I had to choose just one person I would like to meet, it would be Kim Namjoon, also known as RM, the leader of the internationally renowned South Korean group BTS.

What he/she has done

Kim Namjoon is a multifaceted artist who has achieved significant acclaim as a singer-songwriter and music producer. His group, BTS, was named one of the 20 most influential people to watch in 2019, alongside figures like Michelle Obama, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk. Not only has he achieved remarkable success in the music industry, but he also made headlines last year when BTS was invited to speak at the United Nations. Namjoon delivered a poignant seven-minute speech on the importance of self-love, which is especially impactful in a time when mental health issues are on the rise in my country.

Why you want to meet him/her

Meeting Kim Namjoon would be an incredible experience for several reasons. First and foremost, he stands out as a thoughtful and intelligent celebrity who uses his platform for positive change. In contrast to many modern celebrities who are often criticized for being superficial, Namjoon’s emphasis on mental health and self-love is both refreshing and inspiring. His ability to speak on such important topics with sincerity and depth makes him a role model in a landscape where many public figures seem self-obsessed.

And explain how you would feel if you met him/her

If I had the chance to meet Kim Namjoon, I would likely be overwhelmed with emotion. I once had a profound reaction when meeting a less well-known celebrity in London, and I can only imagine how much more intense my feelings would be for someone I deeply admire and respect. Although I might be in tears, I would also hope to engage in a meaningful conversation with him. Despite being Korean, Namjoon is fluent in English, which would facilitate a rich exchange of ideas. From what I’ve seen in interviews, he appears humble and down-to-earth, qualities that make me eager to interact with him. While meeting him might seem like a distant dream, it is a hope I cherish.
