IELTS Speaking Part-2 A place that you would like to travel to that is far away from your home

Describe a place that you would like to travel to that is far away from your home

You should say:

·         Where it is

·         How you would get there

·         What you would do there

·         And explain why you would like to go there

To be perfectly honest, there are loads of places on my bucket list to

visit, but the one that probably ranks top is London. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to visit there, but time and money have made it impossible to date. Hopefully, in the near future, I will get the opportunity to tick this off my bucket list.

One of my phobias is flying; however, there isn’t really an alternative to get there so I would have to fly. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a panic attack when I am on the plane, I am quite calm, but I’m just not a fan of it and I’m incredibly relieved when the plane lands. Because of the distance between the UK and my country, it would be a long-haul flight. Even though I’m not keen on flying, I actually prefer long-haul to short-haul because the facilities on board are usually better and you get inflight meals and entertainment. There are direct flights from my country, but it is often cheaper to have a stopover somewhere.

As for what I would do when I get there, there are loads of things that I would like to do so I would make a schedule in advance because London is a huge city and things need to be planned in advance. Obviously, I would do all the major landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and Big Ben. I’ve been told that London is a shopper’s paradise and I am addicted to shopping so I would shop till I drop. I imagine that prices are high in London, as they are in most capital cities, so I might have to do a lot of window shopping.

As well as the major stores and designer outlets, I would love to go to the markets where you can buy local food and international cuisine. I love going to street markets when I am visiting a foreign country because I think you get a real flavour of the country. In my downtime, I would love to sit outside a café and people watch, but I’ve heard that it rains an awful lot in London so I might not get the chance, unfortunately.

Describe a place that you would like to travel to that is far away from your home.

Where it is

The place I am most eager to visit is London, a city that has long been on my bucket list. Although it has been a lifelong dream to travel there, various factors such as time and financial constraints have made it challenging so far. However, I am hopeful that in the near future, I will have the chance to fulfill this dream.

How you would get there

Given that London is quite distant from my home, flying is the only practical option. While I have a mild phobia of flying, I manage to stay calm during the flight. I do find the experience somewhat stressful, but I’m relieved once the plane has landed. A trip from my country to the UK would involve a long-haul flight. Though direct flights are available, I might opt for a flight with a stopover to potentially reduce costs. Despite my unease with flying, I prefer long-haul flights over short-haul ones due to the better in-flight amenities, such as meals and entertainment.

What you would do there

Once in London, there’s an abundance of activities I would like to undertake. I plan to create a detailed itinerary in advance to make the most of my visit, as London is an extensive city with many attractions. My list includes visiting iconic landmarks like Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, and Big Ben. I have heard that London is a shopper’s paradise, and since I have a keen interest in shopping, I would spend a considerable amount of time exploring its diverse retail offerings. Despite the high prices typical of capital cities, I am prepared to indulge in some window shopping.

Additionally, I would explore local markets to sample both traditional British fare and international cuisines. Street markets provide an authentic taste of the city’s culture, and I relish the opportunity to experience this. During my free time, I would enjoy sitting at a café to people-watch, although I am aware that London’s frequent rainfall might impact this plan.

And explain why you would like to go there

London fascinates me for its rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse activities. The city’s renowned landmarks, shopping opportunities, and culinary experiences make it an appealing destination. Furthermore, the chance to immerse myself in a new environment and engage with the city’s unique character is something I eagerly anticipate. Despite the challenges of traveling, the opportunity to explore London’s offerings and create lasting memories makes it a destination worth pursuing.
