IELTS Speaking Part-2 An interesting job that you would like todo

Describe an interesting job that you would like to

do

You should say:

·         What it is

·         What skills are required

·         And explain why you think it would be interesting

The answer to this question is something I have been giving a lot of thought to recently, as I am stuck in a rut in my current job

and would love to resign and do something completely different. I’ve been working in admin for the past 15 years and I feel I need a new challenge. It’s a dead-end job with no promotion prospects so I need to jump ship, but that is quite a scary prospect.

Anyway, what I’d absolutely love to do is become a writer. Some might argue that you need to have a degree in creative writing or whatever; however, I feel that the key skill for this job is an imagination. The best writers create stories with amazing plots, plot twists, a great protagonist and for this, you need to be a creative and imaginative person.

Working in an office like I do, I have to commute to work every day in rush hour traffic and I’m sick to death of being part of the rat race. Being a freelance or self-employed writer, I could have a home-office and my commute would be from my bed to my desk. Mind you, I’m probably kidding myself that it would be interesting and, in reality, I would probably be sitting staring at my computer, suffering from writer’s block.

Nevertheless, what interests me most about this job is whether I would actually be committed and dedicated enough to finish a book. It would be a test of character and a challenge and like I said at the start, I need a new challenge!

The job I’ve been thinking about recently is becoming a writer. After spending 15 years working in admin, I feel stuck in a rut and crave a new challenge. My current job is a dead-end with no promotion prospects, so transitioning to a completely different career is both appealing and daunting.

To be a successful writer, I believe the most important skill is imagination. While some might argue that a degree in creative writing is necessary, I think creativity is key. Writers craft stories with intricate plots, unexpected twists, and compelling characters, which requires a fertile imagination.

Currently, my job involves commuting through rush-hour traffic every day, and I’m tired of the daily grind. The idea of being a freelance writer appeals to me because I could work from a home office, reducing my commute to just moving from my bed to my desk. However, I’m aware that this job might not be as glamorous as it sounds, and I might face challenges like writer's block.

What excites me most about this job is the potential for personal growth and the challenge of completing a book. It would be a test of my commitment and dedication, and I’m eager to embrace a new challenge, which is exactly what I need right now.
