IELTS Speaking Part-2 Something lost by others but found by you

Describe something lost by others but found by you

You should say:

·        Who it belonged to

·        When it was lost

·         How the person lost it and how you found it

·         And explain how you felt about it

I was struggling to think of a time that I found something, but then I remembered when I found a lost dog. I can’t recall precisely when it was, but it was a few years ago. I was driving to work when a dog suddenly appeared in front of my car. I was on an isolated road with no other cars or houses. I stopped the car and the dog immediately ran to the car and started wagging his tail. He looked friendly so I decided to get out of the car. He didn’t have a collar on so I didn’t know his name or the name of the owner. I had a dilemma: wait with him and see if an owner appeared or take him to the vets to see if he was microchipped.

I was going to be late for work if I waited much longer so I decided the best thing to do was call in at the vets on my way to work. He was a medium-sized dog so I was able to pick him up and pop him in the boot of my car. He was very well-behaved and affectionate so I thought he must have an owner looking for him. He didn’t seem like a stray dog.

I phoned the vets on the way and asked if it was ok to call in with a lost dog. They said it was fine and that they would be able to check to see if he had a microchip with the owner’s details on. When I got there, the vet checked him straightaway and luckily he had and his details were up-to-date. The vet called the owner who started crying as soon as the vet said ‘we have your dog’. The dog had gone missing the day before and the owner had been looking for him all night. She was so relieved. I left the dog at the vets and went to work.

When I got home from work that night, outside my front door was a huge bouquet of flowers with a card which said: ‘Thank you so much for finding my dog and taking him to the vets. He ran off when I was taking him for a walk yesterday and I was terrified that I would never see him again.’ I was delighted that I had reunited the lost dog with its owner and the story had a happy ending.

Describe Something Lost by Others but Found by You

I had a hard time recalling an instance of finding something until I remembered an occasion when I found a lost dog. This event took place a few years ago. I was driving to work along an isolated road with no other cars or houses in sight when a dog suddenly appeared in front of my vehicle. I stopped immediately, and the dog, wagging its tail, ran up to my car. It looked friendly, so I decided to get out.

The dog didn’t have a collar, which meant I had no information about its name or its owner. I faced a dilemma: whether to wait by the roadside in hopes of seeing the owner or to take the dog to the vet to check for a microchip. As I was concerned about being late for work, I chose to take the dog to the vet.

The dog was medium-sized, so I managed to lift it and place it in the boot of my car. Its well-behaved and affectionate nature suggested it had an owner who was likely searching for it, rather than being a stray.

On the way to the vet, I called ahead to ensure it was alright to bring in a lost dog. The vet confirmed it was fine and agreed to check for a microchip. Upon arrival, the vet promptly scanned the dog and found a microchip with up-to-date details. They contacted the owner, who was overwhelmed with relief and began to cry upon hearing that her dog had been found. The dog had been missing since the day before, and she had been frantically searching for it all night. I left the dog at the vet’s office and continued to work.

That evening, when I returned home, I found a large bouquet of flowers at my front door with a card that read: “Thank you so much for finding my dog and taking him to the vet. He ran off during a walk yesterday, and I was terrified I’d never see him again.” I was thrilled to have played a part in reuniting the lost dog with its owner, and it was gratifying to see that the story had a happy ending.
