IELTS Speaking Part-3 Technology

What is the most common technology used by people in your country, and the second most?

From my observations, computer technology prevails since most work is done on computers these days. People use Microsoft Word to compose their documents, access Google for research purposes, and so on. When it comes to the second rank, I'd say it's the smartphone. Millions of people, particularly the youth, are hooked on their smartphones for social networking and communication. In many ways, the smartphone is just like a small computer.

Are there any other places that need technology?

Absolutely, the countryside needs more technology. Introducing novel technological advances can greatly improve the quality of life there. For example, robots can take over a variety of tasks precisely without human intervention, assisting with household chores from mopping the floor to cooking. This can lighten the load for mothers with child-rearing responsibilities or fathers snowed under with work. With more free time, people can engage in other entertainment or educational activities, which does wonders for their lives.

Is it possible to live without technology?

I doubt it. Technology is part and parcel of modern life and a must-have essential. I remember a time when there was a power cut at my house, which meant no internet connection. I had nothing to do, and it felt like I was living in prehistoric times.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of technology?

It's commonly believed that our lives have become more colorful and convenient because of technology. Devices like TVs, video players, and digital cameras enrich our leisure time; and the invention of trains and planes makes long-distance travel possible in a short time. On the flip side, the world is becoming more polluted and dangerous due to high technology. Vehicles create air and noise pollution, and nuclear and biochemical weapons make wars more cruel and disastrous.

What is the impact of technology on people's lives? It's saddening to see that as technology develops faster and faster, people are increasing their pace of life unconsciously. As a result, people become more impersonal in society, becoming just cogs in the machine of society. So, I think technology transforms the relationship between people and society to some degree.

How do you think modern technology will change the way people work in the future? It has already changed the way people work in every field and will continue to do so. For instance, my mom studied to be a graphic designer when she was in college. She did everything by hand 20 years ago. Now, her field has grown with the use of the internet and new technology. She draws by computer, bids for work online, and submits work online. In the future, more work could be done automatically, and all we'll need to do is press a button or check if the jobs are ready for collection.

How can technology make our life easier? Thank you for allowing me to answer this. Technology is a blessing and has made life easier. With the use of technology, you can do unimaginable things now. Previously, people had to manually control their television sets, like increasing or decreasing the volume or changing channels. But now, you can sit back and use a remote controller to do all that.

Once, people used paper and pens to write letters for communication. Now, we have cellular phones, e-mails, and social networking sites, all thanks to modern technology. Moreover, traveling is much easier and faster than in the past, significantly reducing travel time.
