Installing solar panels instead of conventional lights (Letter, Application & Email Writing)

An email to the editor of a daily newspaper appreciating the initiative that Dhaka City Corporation is installing solar panels instead of conventional lights to illuminate the roads in many areas and saying why this should be followed by other city authorities too.

Dear Editor,

I would like to draw the attention of the authorities and the general public towards the befitting step taken by DCC in using solar energy to illuminate the roads of the city. It is a praiseworthy initiative and as a conscious citizen, I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

The world is facing serious challenges in energy supply, and Bangladesh is not an exception. With only 43% of the population having access to electricity facilities, the per capita consumption of 140 kilowatt-hour, and the electricity consumption rate increasing every hour due to the rapidly growing population, the situation is critical. In this context, the introduction of solar panels is a significant step towards sustainable energy.

According to the power system Master Plan 2010, the forecasted demand for electricity in Bangladesh would be 19,000 megawatts by the year 2021 and 34,000 megawatts by 2030. However, the gas fields are already facing a crisis of supply for electricity generation. Hence, the need for alternative sources of energy like solar energy is critical.

If we consider introducing one solar panel for each building in Dhaka city, which has approximately 326,000 buildings, it might produce about 222 megawatts of electricity. Thus, all city corporations of the country should initiate such projects to encourage citizens to set up solar panels.

In conclusion, I urge the authorities to consider the importance of sustainable energy and take necessary steps to implement projects like this throughout the country.
