MY FAVOURITE GAME

Having played many games in the course of the last eight / nine years, I think that football is the best of all. The other sports do not arouse in me half the interest that football does. Football is played in a large field. It is 120 years long and 80 yards broad. Two goal posts are placed at the end of the opposite sides with a cross bar. The game is played between two parties. Each party consists of eleven players. There is a referee to conduct the game. The ball is placed in the centre of the field. The players of each party stand face to face in their respective side. When the referee blows the whistle, the striker of one party first kicks the ball and the game begins. Each of the players tries his best to pass the ball inside the goal of the opposite party. The party who can score a large number of goals is called winner. The game is played for one and half an hour. An interval of short period between two halves is allowed. Football is a very interesting game. I find pleasure and recreation in football. The spirit of co-operation among the players and the orderly organisation of the teams foster a feeling of brotherhood and develop a methodical habit. It makes the players strong and active. The tactics, presence of mind, speed, and pluck required for a football-player at every step are seldom to be seen in any other game. The best feature of the game is the sports manlike spirit with which defeat is, as a rule, borne.

Introduction:            Football is the most popular game all over the world. Likewise it is popular in Bangladesh. It is not a game of our country. MY FAVOURITE GAME  /A country Game

Football, the most widely-played game across the globe, is also quite popular in Bangladesh. This game was introduced to our country by the English from Europe. Personally, I hold this game in high esteem, although I do not partake in it myself. I spend a great deal of time watching football matches on television, or playing the game in the field with friends.

Out of all the indoor and outdoor games, football is my favourite. It is much more exhilarating than other games, and I have taken part in many games of both types. The game is always played in an open field that measures 120 yards in length and 80 yards in width, with a goal post at each end. These goal posts are made of upright posts, set sixteen feet apart, with a cross bar overhead. The four sides, the central place, the penalty lines, etc. are clearly marked.

Football is played between two teams, each consisting of eleven players. One player stands as a goalkeeper to protect his team’s goalpost while two full-backs help him. Three half-backs assist the full-backs and forwards in scoring goals. The game lasts for ninety minutes with a ten-minute rest period at half-time. Before the game starts, the players take their positions, and the referee conducts the game with a whistle. The referee's decision is final in the field, and the players must obey it.

Football is a great physical exercise that can improve the player's health, making them strong, smart, careful and hardy. It also instils other positive qualities such as discipline, obedience, and cooperation. Nowadays, football players can earn a substantial amount of money. However, it can also lead to player injuries or accidents, which can be fatal.

In conclusion, football is an ideal game for students, who have limited time for recreational activities. With the decrease in the number of playgrounds, they can play football in their small yards, and the game does not require as much time as cricket. For these reasons, football is my preferred game.

MY FAVOURITE GAME or THE GAME WHICH I LIKE BEST

Football is my favourite game. It is not an indigenous game. It came from England. Now-a-days it is an international game and is played almost in all countries of the world. In our country it is very popular. In schools, colleges, universities and also in the rural areas we play football. No game is so exciting as football. It thrills not only the players but also the spectators. Hence of all the games, I like football most.

Football is played in a fairly large field of 110 to 120 yards long and 70 to 80 yards wide. There are two goal posts at each of the opposite ends of the field. The distance between the two goal posts is 8 yards, and a goal bar joins the posts above. The goal bar is attached to the post 8feet above the ground.

How the game is played: The game is played between two teams. Each team has 11 players of whom one is the goal-keeper. He tries to protect the goal for his own team so that the ball does not cross the goal line between the two goal posts. Each team tries to score goals. The goal-keeper is at liberty to touch and catch the ball with any part of his body, but the other players cannot touch the ball with hands. They are allowed to touch or kick the ball with any part of their body except their hands. Besides the goal-keeper, each team has two backs, three half-backs and five forwards. A ball is placed in the centre. The referee whistles and the game starts. Then there go on the attacks and the defences. The whole game is divided into two equal halves with an interval of 10 minutes in between them. At the end of the first half each team changes its side. The party that scores more goals wins the game. When a goal is scored the whole body of the spectators burst into cheering shouts. When a party attacks, the supporters of the team encourage them and a thrilling excitement vibrates the air.

From what is stated above, it is clear that the game is played according to some rules. Every player has to abide by these rules. The referee sees that the rules are obeyed during the play. The decision of the referee is final in all matters in the field.

The game teaches the principle of obedience to rules. A player must observe the rules, act in strict obedience to the whistle of the referee and abide by the decision of the captain. It also teaches discipline and team-spirit. Victory depends upon co-operation among players of the same side. There is no room for selfishness and jealousy. They like the defeat in a sportsmanlike spirit. It also teaches the qualities of leadership. It makes the players prompt, cautious, careful, strong and hardy. Thus apart from giving good exercise and excellent amusement football teaches many virtues and helps in the formation of character.

But one should not attach more importance to this game than it deserves. Many students spoil their studies in their craze for football. They will not only play football but also talk of football, think of football and dream of football. Rivalry in the play often leads to quarrels and squabbles. This is nothing but a waste of energy and a source evil that leads to unnecessary bitterness. I always bear in mind that football is only an interesting and exciting game. I, therefore, never pay more attention to it than it deserves and in spite of some risks that our legs or other parts of the body may be injured, I like the game best.

MY FAVOURITE GAME or THE GAME WHICH I LIKE BEST

Out of all the games that exist, football holds a special place in my heart. Originating from England, this game has now transcended borders to become an international phenomenon, with its popularity reaching every corner of the world. Even in our country, football is a beloved sport that is played in schools, colleges, universities, and rural areas. The excitement that this game brings is unparalleled, captivating not only the players but also the spectators. Hence, without a doubt, football is the game that I like best.

The game of football is played in a fairly large field that spans between 110 to 120 yards in length and 70 to 80 yards in width. At each opposite end of the field, there are two goal posts that stand tall. The distance between the two goal posts is 8 yards, and a goal bar joins the posts above, attached to the post at a height of 8 feet above the ground.

The game of football is played between two teams, each consisting of 11 players, with one player acting as the goalkeeper who is responsible for protecting the goal of their team. Each team tries to score goals while preventing the other team from doing so. The goalkeeper is at liberty to touch and catch the ball with any part of their body, but the other players are not allowed to touch the ball with their hands. They are permitted to touch or kick the ball with any other part of their body, except their hands. Each team has two backs, three half-backs, and five forwards, and a ball is placed in the center of the field to start the game. The referee whistles to signal the start of the game, and the two teams engage in attacks and defenses. The game is divided into two equal halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with an interval of 10 minutes in between them. At the end of the first half, the teams change sides. The team that scores the most goals is declared the winner of the game. Whenever a goal is scored, the entire crowd erupts into a frenzy of cheering shouts, creating a thrilling and exciting atmosphere.

As is evident from the rules of the game, football is a sport that adheres to strict regulations, with every player expected to abide by them. The referee oversees the game to ensure that these rules are followed, and their decision is final in all matters on the field. Through football, players learn the importance of obedience to rules, discipline, and team spirit. Victory is the result of cooperation among the players of the same team, with no room for selfishness or jealousy. Accepting defeat in a sportsmanlike spirit is also an essential aspect of the game. Football teaches players the qualities of leadership, making them prompt, cautious, careful, strong, and hardy. Thus, apart from providing a good exercise and excellent entertainment, football imparts many virtues and assists in shaping one's character.

However, it is crucial not to attach more importance to this game than it deserves. Many students become so consumed in their obsession with football that they neglect their studies. They not only play the game but also talk about it, think about it, and dream about it. The rivalry in the game often leads to quarrels and squabbles, which is nothing but a waste of energy and a source of unnecessary bitterness. It is essential to remember that football is merely an exciting and engaging game. Despite the risks involved, such as potential injuries to our legs or other parts of the body, I still maintain that football is the game that I like best.

MY FAVOURITE GAME

Games and sports are inseparable part of one’s life. Many games are locally arranged and played by us. But the game of cricket which had the origin in far-away land is now popular in our country. I like cricket very much. It is a very interesting outdoor game. But it is a costly one. Poor people cannot afford to take to it.

The game is played between two teams each consisting of eleven members. A large stretch of perfectly flat and smooth ground is necessary for this game. A cricket field must have a turf which has to be kept soft by means of watering. It is to be maintained at heavy cost. In the absence of a good turf, cricket is played in some countries on coir matting. Other requisites of the cricket game are two wooden bats, a ball and two sets of stumps. The wickets are pitched opposite and paralleled at a distance of 22 yards.

The game of cricket is now played in all seasons. In cricket defence is very important and victory often depends upon good fielding. Three fieldsmen are placed on the on-side ---- one at square-leg, one at mid-on and the third at long-on. Six are put on the off-side --- three at slip, one at cover-point, one at mid-off and the last at long-off. Of the remaining two, one is the bowler and the other, the wicket-keeper. The arrangement of the fielders, however, is often changed by the captain in consultation with the bowler.

A match is sometimes played the whole day. The day is then divided into two periods-one from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 2 p.m. to 5p.m. The umpire’s signal marks the beginning of the play and the bowler starts bowling. After every six balls the bowler’s over ends. The batsman may be out in many ways, such as ‘bowled out’, ‘run out’, ‘stumped out’, ‘caught out’, ‘leg before wicket out’ and ‘hit-wicket out’.

A run is said to be scored when the batsman, after hitting the ball, changes position once with his partner before the ball is received at the wickets. If the ball crosses the boundary line, four runs are made. When the ball hits the stumps, the batsman is said to be bowled out and when he by hitting the ball gives a catch, he is caught out. Again, while making a run, if the ball is thrown against the stumps before he has reached the wicket the batsman is run out. If he places his leg or legs before the wicket against a straight ball he is out (lbw). First innings of one side continues till the tenth player of the batting side is out. The rival team then comes of bat and proceeds in the same way. In a match generally two innings are played. The team that scores the greater number of runs, after making all the rival batsmen out, wins the match. Two umpires are appointed to conduct and supervise the game. All cases of disputes are settled by them.

Cricket is a highly exciting game. It makes us cheerful and obedient. It also teaches us discipline and promptness. It teaches manliness, obedience, patience, perseverance and co-operation. But fairness is the very essence of this fame. It is a good form of exercise. It strengthens the muscles of the players and provides them vigour and vitality. Cricket, from the view point of exhibition, is an aristocratic game. It is, indeed, the king of games. And hence it is my favourite game.
