My dear Arif,
Your letter is just to hand. It was wonderful hearing about your recent trip to the countryside. Inspired by your experience, I thought I’d share something equally exciting—a recent village fair I visited. It was such a delightful experience that I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
The fair took place in a nearby village to celebrate the harvest season. The atmosphere was lively and colorful, with people of all ages pouring in from surrounding areas. As I approached the fairground, the vibrant decorations immediately caught my eye. Brightly colored flags fluttered in the breeze, and the stalls were adorned with flowers and lights.
There was so much to explore at the fair! The stalls were filled with a variety of goods, from handmade crafts and pottery to colorful bangles and toys. I was especially fascinated by the sweet shops offering traditional treats like pithas, jilapis, and ladus. The aroma of freshly cooked snacks filled the air, making it impossible to resist tasting a little of everything.
The cultural performances were the highlight of the fair. A local group performed folk dances and songs, which were both entertaining and heartwarming. There was also a puppet show that drew huge crowds, especially children. The excitement on their faces was infectious!
For entertainment, there were rides like the merry-go-round and a giant Ferris wheel. I couldn’t resist taking a ride on the Ferris wheel to get a bird’s-eye view of the bustling fairground. The laughter, music, and chatter from below made the experience unforgettable.
The fair also had a section dedicated to traditional games like ha-du-du and bullock-cart racing. It was amazing to see how these age-old traditions are still cherished and celebrated.
Visiting the fair made me appreciate the cultural richness and warmth of rural life even more. I felt a sense of belonging and joy that’s hard to describe. I wish you had been there with me—it would’ve been even more fun.
That’s all for now. Do let me know how you’re doing and if you’ve visited any fairs recently. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours ever,
Rifat

Dear Rifat
This is many days since you wrote to me. I am highly eager to let you know about a visit to a fair in our village, which I have recently made. You know that the last few days were the vacation of autumn. So I went to visit my native village. There I along with my cousin went to a village fair. Indeed it was an amazing experience.
The fair was full of din and bustle. Immense crowds were making their way towards the fair. The fair was held over the open space around the shrine of a Muslim saint.
There were long rows of booths with broad passages between. In these booths were displayed almost all sorts of things; toys, cosmetics, knives, whistles, earthen wares, brass wares, fruits and sweets. It seemed to be a kind of exhibition in miniature of cottage industries. The rural artisans and craftsmen brought their handmade articles to the fair.
Different forms of amusements were also accommodated to provide a happy diversion to the rural people. ‘Travelling jatra parties’, ‘Nagar- dolas’ ‘Circus parties’ etc were showing their feats and performances. A magician too was found under a small tent ready to show his tricks to the people against small sum. But the largest crowd gathered around the place where jugglers exhibited their feats. After visiting the fair I realised that the fair really inspired the skilled hands of cottage industries and helped the farmers by building their economy. It was a means of recreation, change and social get-together of the village people.
The experience of visiting the fair is really engraved in my heart for long. That’s all for today. Hope to hear from you. With best wishes.
Yours ever,
Halim

My dear Masum,
Thank you very much for your kind letter. I hope you're doing well, and I'm glad to say that I'm also well. Now, let me tell you about a village fair that I recently visited.
Our village is quite old and large. Every year, during the occasions of Pahela Baishakh or Durgapuja, a fair is held under a big banyan tree in our village. This time, there was a week-long fair organized for Durgapuja. I went to the fair with my grandfather.
When we arrived, we saw hundreds of decorated temporary shops lined up in rows. Rural artisans like potters, weavers, carpenters, and artists displayed and sold their handmade products at the fair. Additionally, there were many fancy items such as jute handicrafts, dolls, toys, kites, bangles, ribbons, and small wooden furniture.
The circus performances, doll dances, magic shows, and cockfights were the main attractions of the fair. I especially enjoyed watching the cockfight, and it drew a large crowd of people of all ages, particularly children.
I bought a wooden stick for my grandmother before we headed back home before sunset. Village fairs hold great value as they provide entertainment for rural folks, breaking the monotony of their daily chores, lifting their spirits, and broadening their horizons. They also contribute to the village economy.
I make it a point to visit the village fair every year. That's all for today. Sending you my best wishes.
Yours truly,
Rocky
